Unit 1: Introduction / Purpose of Civic Action
Duration of Days: 5
Students will know how to identify media, bias, point of view, and change over time. Students will know the foundational framework of world current events and contemporary issues. Students will understand major currents of U.S. socio-economic and political events.
Students will receive news through a variety of multimedia sources and access the internet for new media. Students will participate in challenging discussions and inquiry-based activities. Students will practice discussion skills, debate skills, blogging, and argumentative writing.

Students will demonstrate learning through active participation and regular classroom discussions with academic peers.

Students will demonstrate growth via challenging reading assignments and written argumentative components.

Student progress will be aligned toward mastering Civics and Government Standards (Dimension 4- INQ 9-12.10-.17) and CT Core Literacy Standards (Grades 11-12).
