Unit 1: CREATE: Conceiving and developing new artistic ideas and work
Duration of Days: 180
Students will understand that musical ideas can be generated, refined, and communicated through improvisation, composition, arranging, experimentation, and interpretation. They will understand how musical elements, stylistic conventions, performance practices, and artistic intent contribute to the creative process.
Students will independently and collaboratively generate, develop, revise, and communicate original musical ideas. Students will experiment with musical elements, create original material, arrange existing music, evaluate creative work, and justify artistic decisions using musical evidence.
Students demonstrate learning through improvisation, composition, arranging, rehearsal experimentation, peer critique, student-led creative tasks, reflection, and performance of original or adapted musical material.
