Unit 1: Create

Students will understand that musical ideas can be generated, refined, and communicated through improvisation, experimentation, collaboration, and reflection. Students will understand how rhythm, melody, expression, text, and vocal technique contribute to the creative process and how musicians use feedback to improve artistic work.

Students will generate, explore, refine, and communicate musical ideas through vocal improvisation, solfège activities, body percussion, technology-based music creation, and collaborative rehearsal experiences. Students will contribute creative ideas during rehearsals, evaluate musical choices, and communicate artistic intent through performance and reflection.

Students demonstrate learning through vocal improvisation activities, solfège composition exercises, body percussion projects, BandLab music creation tasks, rehearsal contributions, self-reflection, peer feedback, and performance of original musical ideas.
