Unit 2: SCALES & IMPROVISATION
Duration of Days: 24
Students will understand how scale patterns, phrasing, rhythm, and note choice contribute to improvisation and solo performance. Students will understand how pentatonic and blues scales function across the fretboard and how improvisation supports musical creativity and expression.
Students will perform pentatonic and blues scale patterns, improvise over chord progressions, develop melodic phrases, and apply rhythmic variation within solos. Students will rehearse and perform structured improvised solos using learned scale shapes and accompaniment tracks.
Students demonstrate learning through scale performance checks, improvisation exercises, melodic phrasing activities, guided solo construction, and an improvisation performance project.
