Lesson Objective

Students will use progressive practice strategies to build muscle memory and smoothly transition between the Em, G, C and D chords in any order.

How do guitarists build muscle memory?

How do guitarists go from learning chords to learning songs?

Strum, Rest, Beat 1/2/3/4, Rhythm, Rehearsal

MU:Pr5.1.H.5a

The Rest Removal strategy has multiple representations. It can be visualized (as printed in Guitar Packet #1), counted out loud, done alone or in groups, can be monitored with or without a metronome, and there are multiple video resources that can also be used to guide this practice.

Students will record videos of themselves at various stages of the Rest Removal process (1 beat, 2 beats, 3 beats, and 4 beats). These videos will demonstrate growth over time through consistent practice and will be uploaded to their portfolios as artifacts.

By the time students get to 4 beats, they will be able to follow along with a four-chord play along track at full or .75 speed.
