Students will create an original 4-8 measure melody using proper notation.

State Standard: Demonstrate creative musical expression through original compositions.
Students work individually or in pairs to write a short melody using a given scale. Emphasis on rhythm and melodic contour.
Students may overuse stepwise motion or not finish phrases properly.
Provide rhythmic templates or starter motifs for students who struggle; advanced students may explore more complex time signatures.
Teacher review of written melody, peer feedback, class performance of composed melodies.
