Unit 1: COURSE DESCRIPTION

Concert Choir Accelerated 8 is designed for students who have previous choir experience and are ready to continue developing their vocal and musical skills at a higher level. Students will refine proper vocal technique, including breath support, tone quality, diction, pitch accuracy, and vocal independence within a choral ensemble. Emphasis will be placed on student effort and collaboration within the choir.

This class will focus on performing more challenging choral literature in a variety of musical styles, languages, and cultures. Students will strengthen their music reading skills, develop greater musical expression, and learn to sing confidently in harmony. Emphasis is placed on ensemble collaboration, rehearsal discipline, and artistic performance.

Students will demonstrate their learning through active participation in rehearsals, where they apply advanced vocal techniques, music reading skills, and ensemble performance practices. Students will show their understanding by activities such as singing independently and in small groups, performing assigned vocal parts, and demonstrating accuracy in pitch, rhythm, diction, and expression. Students will  complete assignments such as periodic vocal or sight-reading assessments to show growth in their musical skills. The primary demonstration of learning will be through prepared performances at school concerts and events, where students perform challenging choral repertoire as an ensemble.
