Lesson Objective

Students will demonstrate comprehensive mastery of all Grade 8 domains—The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics—by synthesizing mathematical models to solve complex, non-routine problems.

How can we determine the most efficient algebraic or geometric method to solve multi-step real-world problems?

In what ways do coordinate rules for rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations allow us to prove congruence and similarity?

How do we use linear functions and systems to model and compare real-world relationships and data?

Rational and Irrational Numbers

Scientific Notation and Integer Exponents

Slope-Intercept and Standard Form

Systems of Equations and Inequalities

Rigid Transformations and Dilations

Volume (Cylinders, Cones, Spheres)

8.NS.A: The Number System

8.EE.A-C: Expressions and Equations

8.F.A-B: Functions

8.G.A-C: Geometry (Transformations and Volume)

8.SP.A: Statistics and Probability

Description: A 5-day comprehensive review that integrates all unit topics through collaborative problem-solving, targeted data-driven practice, and a final summative domain assessment.

Purpose: To build testing stamina and ensure students can fluently transition between algebraic, geometric, and statistical concepts.

DOK Level: Level 3 (Strategic Thinking) – Students analyze, evaluate, and solve multi-dimensional problems that require a synthesis of all Grade 8 standards.

Domain Integration: Difficulty identifying which specific mathematical domain or tool applies to a word problem that combines different concepts (e.g., using volume in a system of equations problem).

Coordinate Rules: Confusing the specific algebraic rules for different types of transformations on the coordinate plane.

Reference Scaffolding: Provide access to all prior unit Reference Guides and Cheat Sheets.

Small-Group Intervention: Use IAB data to group students for targeted re-teaching on high-leverage standards like linear functions or volume.
