Lesson Objective

After rereading and discussing a model of close reading, students will be able to compare and contrast the structure of two texts and analyze how the differing structure affects meaning and style.

Checklist for Story Structure:

In order to determine how to compare and contrast the structure of two or more texts, note the following:
- the order of events, including the exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution in each text
- when the conflict is introduced in each text
the use of flashback or foreshadowing in each text
- how the structure of each text contributes to its meaning and style
- the similarities and differences between the structures in each text

To compare and contrast the structure of two or more texts and analyze how the structure of each text contributes to its meaning
and style, ask the following questions:
- How is each text structured?
- How are the structures of each text the same? How are they different?
- How does the structure of each text contribute to its meaning and style?
