Lesson Objective

Students will demonstrate proper instrument setup with increased independence and refine left-hand position for improved intonation and finger accuracy.

How does correct posture impact tone and technique?

What makes left-hand position accurate and efficient?

How can I self-correct my setup while playing?

Posture

Thumb placement

Performing: Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation

Responding: Evaluate and refine performance

Connecting: Relate posture and technique to performance quality

Students review instrument setup from 6th grade but focus on consistency and independence. Emphasis is placed on left-hand shape, finger placement, and early intonation awareness. Students begin using listening skills to self-monitor pitch and posture.

Visual aids (diagrams of hand position)

Teacher modeling vs. peer modeling

Marked finger tapes for developing players

Extension: introduce simple scale patterns for advanced students

  • Teacher observation checklist (posture, hand position)

  • Quick individual playing checks

  • Student self-assessment (thumb position, finger curvature)
