After rereading and discussing a model of close reading, students will be able to determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author distinguishes his or her position from that of others.

How does the author convey, or communicate, information in the text? Does the author use figurative or emotional language? How does it affect the purpose and point of view?
How does the author distinguish his or her perspective or point of view? Does the author bring up different points of view?
How is the author’s position or point of view different from opposing point of view?
