Lesson Objective

Students will be able to analyze how setting interacts with other story elements, including the characters and plot.

In order to identify how particular elements of a story or drama interact, note the following:
-the setting of the story note the characters in the text and the problems they face
-how the events of the plot unfold, and how that affects the setting and characters
-how the setting shapes the characters and plot

To analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact, consider the following questions as a guide:
-What is the setting(s) of the story?
-How does the setting affect the characters and plot? How does the setting contribute to or help solve the conflict?
-How do the characters’ decisions affect the plot and setting(s)?
