Lesson Objective

Students will be able to analyze how plot interacts with other story elements, including the characters and setting.

In order to identify particular elements of a story or drama, note the following:
-setting details character details, including their thoughts, actions, and descriptions
-notable incidents or events in the plot
-characters or setting details that may have caused an event to occur
-the central conflict and the characters who are involved
-dialogue between or among characters instances when setting interferes with a character’s motivations

To analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact, consider the following questions:
-How do the events of the plot unfold in the story?
-How do characters respond or change as the plot advances? -
-How does the setting shape the characters or the plot?
-How does a particular scene in the story contribute to the development of the plot?
-How does the plot or structure of the story contribute to its meaning or theme?
