Lesson Objective

1. Students will test different metals to prove that a copper coil only interacts with a magnet when electricity is flowing through it.

2. Demonstrate how to switch between "pushing" and "pulling" forces by flipping the magnet or the battery.

3. Identify kinetic energy by observing how the coil moves when the magnetic forces are activated.

What can a magnet pull or push without touching?

Description: Students will experiment with magnets and copper coils. They will discover that while a copper coil isn't naturally magnetic, it "wakes up" and acts just like a magnet as soon as it is connected to a battery.

Purpose: This helps students understand the "invisible" engine inside their speaker. They will see how we can use electricity to create a magnetic push or pull, which is exactly what makes the speaker move to create sound.
