- Students will be able to identify independent and dependent variables in words problems and function tables and explain how they relate to each other.
- Why is one variable called "independent" (the cause) while the other is called "dependent" (the effect)?
- In a real-world scenario, how can you determine which quantity changes in response to the other?

Using real world examples and ratio tables, have students determine if a topic is independent or dependent. Examples can be found in the district folder. Students should come to the conclusion that the x value is independent and the y value is dependent. DOK 1-2
