After rereading and discussing a model of close reading, students will be able to analyze how a particular sentence or chapter fits into the overall structure of a text and contributes to the development of theme, setting, or plot.
Think of a movie, television show, or book you like. How are the stories you like best usually structured? Do they vary? What kind of structure do you like best?
