Students will demonstrate safe and effective kayaking skills, including paddling techniques.

Students often freeze when they encounter a deceptively difficult math problem or an agonizingly dense reading passage. Kayaking teaches the muscle memory of calm adaptation—pivoting to a new strategy (like skipping and returning to a question) rather than capsizing under stress.

DOK 4 Students will analyze fellow classmates performance of paddle strokes.
Students will be able to understand the differences between the types of kayaks so that if they decide to venture out they will choose the appropriate kayak.
Students will obtain the knowledge necessary to safely kayak and assist kayakers in need.
It doesn't matter how you hold a paddle.
It is easy to get back in or on a kayak and doesn't require any skill.

Small groups to assist with practice sessions.
Students will perform paddle strokes on command during a skill test.
