Lesson Objective

Students will perform high-repetition sets (15+) to improve the ability of muscle groups to persist in physical activity.

How does reducing rest time between sets impact your heart rate and muscular fatigue?

Repetitions (Reps), Sets, Hypertrophy, Aerobic Capacity, Lactic Acid, Fast-Twitch vs. Slow-Twitch Fibers, Bodyweight Resistance.

Standard 3: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

(DOK 1) Identify four bodyweight tests used to measure muscular endurance.
(DOK 2) Explain why bone density still increases during endurance training, even if it is less than during heavy lifting.

Muscular endurance is the foundation of physical labor and many recreational sports like swimming or cycling. It allows your muscles to "resist fatigue" during repetitive tasks. Improving this area increases aerobic capacity and "tones" the body for long-duration activities.

lifting weight will make my muscles big

Provide variations of each exercise for differing levels of skill and development.

Students complete the endurance test circuit: chin-ups, push-ups, dips, and sit-ups, documenting their maximal repetitions for each.

  • Stopwatches, light dumbbells, pull-up bars, dipping stands, workout sheets
