Lesson 3: Power & Propulsion
Duration of Days: 1
Lesson Objective
Students will incorporate "Power" moves (knee lifts, kicks) to increase heart rate into the target heart rate zone.
How does a person increase their heart rate if it is not in the target zone?
Propulsion
Hamstring Curl
Target Heart Rate (THR)
Standard 3: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity.
(DOK 3) Analyze the difference in effort between a "Basic Step" and a "Power Knee." Which move is more effective for cardiovascular conditioning, and why?
In real life, the ability to navigate stairs, recover from a trip or stumble, and maintain balance on uneven surfaces all rely on the same "foot-eye" coordination developed on the platform. Furthermore, the rhythmic nature of the class teaches students how to use music as a tool for pacing and mental motivation during physical exertion.
I may have to wear a leotard and leg warmers.
Have different levels of challenge for students.
Allow students to choose their challenge levels
Students will demonstrate techniques to increase their heart rate during activity.
