Lesson 2: Traveling & Directional Changes
Duration of Days: 1
Lesson Objective
Students will perform "Over the Top" and "Turn Steps" while maintaining a consistent rhythm with the music.
How can a person use the step to increase the intensity of the workout?
Over the Top
Turn Step
Beats Per Minute (BPM)
Standard 1: Develops a variety of motor skills (rhythmic movement).
(DOK 2) How does changing the direction of your movement (e.g., moving laterally vs. forward) affect your heart rate and balance?
In real life, the ability to navigate stairs, recover from a trip or stumble, and maintain balance on uneven surfaces all rely on the same "foot-eye" coordination developed on the platform. Furthermore, the rhythmic nature of the class teaches students how to use music as a tool for pacing and mental motivation during physical exertion.
I may have to wear a leotard and leg warmers.
Have different levels of challenge for students.
Allow students to choose their challenge levels
Students can demonstrate staying on beat during activity.
