The Vaping Myth: Understand that vapor isnt just water, rather it is a chemical (aerosol) that contains nicotine and metal

The Addiction: Knowing that nicotine impacts the brain and makes it very hard to stop once you start

Impacts: Recognize how vaping/smoking affects them (physical, financial, emotional and social)

Targeted Influence: Identify the strategies that companies use to target young people

The Cost: students will use calculators to calculate how much money is lost to vaping/tobacco use each week.month/year

Analyze Advertisements: Analyze vaping advertisements and spot the trap or techniques that companies use to entice young people to use the product

Refusal Techniques: Students will identify and practice using basic refusal techniques to avoid the dangers of vaping/tobacco use

The Straw Test Reflection: Students will attempt to perform a variety of basic physical activities while breathing through a narrow starw only for 30 seconds.  Students will then write a reflection on how breathing like that would feel when participating in their favorite physical activity.

 

Truth vs. Trap Sorting Activity: Students will sort cards that have truth statements written on them, "its expensive" vs trap statements, "Its just flavored water"

 

Warning Poster: Students will create a warning poster highlighting the dangers of vaping/tobacco use, that counters the asset advertising techniques used by vaping/tobacco companies.
