What is alcohol?: Alcohol is a drug (depressant), that slows the body and its functions down.
Physical & Mental Impact of Alcohol: Understand how alcohold changes how we walk, talk and make choices (relationship between alcohol and brain function)
The Law & Safety Aspects of Alcohol Use: The legal age to consume alcohol and the dangers of underage drinking, as well as the legal BAC levels
External influences Realted to Alcohol Use: Understanding the role that media and advertisements play in how they portray alcohol use, as well as peer pressure surrounding alcohl use.
Identify Impairment: Students will recognize the red flags of those who may be under the impairment of alcohol use (slurred speech, stumbling, too loud, etc)
Refusal Skills: Practice and identify proper refusal skills and clear ways to say no to alcohols
Have Safe Exit Plans: Identify a safe person to contact if they are in a situation where people are drinking and they feel uncomfortable and identify safe exit strategies.
Simulation: Student will be asked to complete tasks while wearing "drinking goggles" and reflect upon their experience.
Myth vs Fact: Students will determine what aspects of advertisements and media portray alcohol inaccurately. They will also investigate common misconceptions about alcohol use
Everfi Certification: Complete an EVERFI certification online program that covers laws, safety and effects of alcohol, as well as refusal skills.
