Lesson 1: Introduction to Systems of Equations
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Students will understand what a system of equations is and identify solutions.
• What is a system of equations?
• What does it mean to solve a system?
• How many solutions can a system have?
• How do we check if a point is a solution

Description: Systems of equations are introduced as two or more equations that we solve together. Students learn that a solution is an ordered pair that satisfies both equations simultaneously. They verify solutions by substituting into both equations. Purpose: To establish foundational understanding that systems have solutions that work for all equations. DOK Level: 1-2 (Recall and Understanding)
• Visual representation: Show both equations on the same graph
• For struggling learners: Use simple linear equations
• For advanced learners: Introduce non-linear systems
• Anchor chart: Display system vocabulary and solution concept
• Observation: Can students identify solutions to systems?
• Verification task: Check if given points are solutions
• Worksheet: Verify solutions to given systems
• Exit ticket: Explain what a solution to a system means
• System of equations examples
• Verification worksheets
• Anchor chart for systems
• Graphing examples
