Lesson 2: 1.2 Segments & Rays
Duration of Days: 3
Lesson Objective
Draw and measure segments and rays
What is the difference between a segment and a ray?
How do we accurately measure distance between two endpoints?

I DO: Demonstrate measuring a finite segment with a ruler on the board vs. drawing an arrow for a ray (like a flashlight beam).
WE DO: Use plastic straws. Cut them to specific measured lengths (segments) and attach paper arrows to one end (rays).
YOU DO: Measure 5 specific segments on a worksheet with a ruler, then draw and match corresponding rays.
Introduction to precision measurement tools used in trades and daily life.
DOK 1-2 (Skill/Concept)
Support (Low): Provide large-print, high-contrast rulers and physical objects (straws) to manipulate.
Extension (High): Use a calculator to find the midpoint of measured segments or convert inches to centimeters.
Formative Assessment
Rulers (standard and large-print)
