CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.6
Description: Using the STAR method to turn a school story into a work-ready answer.
Purpose: To move students from "Yes/No" answers to "Evidence-Based" answers. The STAR method provides a cognitive scaffold that helps students organize their thoughts and prove their skills through storytelling
DOK Level: 3
-Scaffolding: Provide a STAR graphic organizer with four quadrants to help students physically separate the Situation from the Result.
-Verbal: Allow students to tell their story to a partner first, who then helps them write down the key points.
-Word Bank: Provide a list of positive outcome words (ex. Solved, Improved, Helped) to finish their answers.
