Unit 2: Electrical Systems & Drive Trains
Duration of Days: 25
Electrical theory: Ohm’s Law ($V=IR$) and Kirchhoff’s Circuit Laws.
The architecture of an EV (Electric Vehicle) powertrain: Batteries, Controllers, and Motors.
Diagnosis and troubleshooting logic for high-amperage DC circuits.
Construct breadboard circuits to calculate resistance and voltage drops.
Wire a full-scale Electrathon drive system including the master disconnect, fuse block, motor controller, and throttle.
Use Multimeters and Power Analyzers to bench-test motor efficiency
-
Circuit Build-Off: Construction of a working series/parallel lighting circuit for a vehicle.
-
System Diagnostics: Students must successfully identify and repair a "staged" electrical fault in a race vehicle.
