Career Exploration & Pathways
A major goal is to expose students to the huge variety of jobs available in healthcare. They learn about careers grouped into "pathways," which often include:
Therapeutic Services: Careers that involve working directly with patients to provide care, treatment, or therapy.
Examples: Nurse (CNA, LPN, RN), Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Pharmacist, EMT/Paramedic, Dental Assistant.
Diagnostic Services: Jobs that use tests and procedures to detect, diagnose, and treat diseases.
Examples: Radiologic Technologist (X-ray tech), Phlebotomist (draws blood), EKG Technician, Medical Lab Technician.
Health Informatics: The "data" side of healthcare, involving managing patient information, medical records, and technology.
Examples: Medical Coder, Health Information Manager, Medical Biller.
Support Services: Roles that keep the healthcare facility running smoothly and safely.
Examples: Hospital Maintenance, Food Services, Patient Transport, Sterile Processing Technician.
Biotechnology Research & Development: Careers focused on science and research to develop new treatments, medicines, and technologies.
**Examples:**Biomedical Engineer, Clinical Trials Researcher, Geneticist.
Students will learn throughout course vocabulary, terminology and abbreviations and utilize this knowledge in course content and being to recall and start to think critically. Exposure may attract interest to pursue further research into a health occupation pathway. Student will learn to be more culturally sensitive and aware.
