Students will be able to learn :
*identify key terms related to healthcare worker's characteristics and abilities-
sender -receiver-message- barriers-culture
*elements of effective communication and barriers
*start the learning process of cultural awareness in the health care field-possible need for translators (ties in with Chap 5)
*good characteristics of the healthcare worker
*importance of both verbal and non-verbal communications.
*use of proper documentation skills for effective practice.
*use of military time
*start the ongoing process of medical terminology and medical abbreviations
Students will engage in:
group work and illustrate the characteristics of good health care worker
start the process of medical terminology and its essential use in med world (continuous process through the year)
start the process of using medical abbreviations to communicate effectively (individual and/or group work assignments)
Summative Assessments ( vocabulary on Chap 2, medical terminology, Jeopardy games on terminology and abbreviations)
Group Work on diagram of Healthcare Worker and positive attributes
Complete Worksheets (ongoing throughout the course)on effective writing skills of the healthcare worker
