Lesson 2: The Horizontal Ellipse (Plate 1-3 & 1-4)
Duration of Days: 3
Lesson Objective
Students will use the ELLIPSE > ISOCIRCLE command to represent circular holes on the Top Isoplane.
Why does a circle look like an oval in an isometric view?
What is the specific command sequence to activate an Isocircle?
Ellipse, Major Axis, Minor Axis, Isocircle.
CT CADD.04.03: Apply geometric construction techniques to pictorial drawings.
Students work on Plates 1-3 and 1-4. They will learn that standard circles are "illegal" in isometrics. They must use the Ellipse tool and select the Isocircle sub-option. They will practice centering these ellipses on the "Top" face of a block.
Purpose: To accurately represent holes and cylinders on horizontal surfaces.
DOK Level: 2.
Create a "Keyboard Shortcut" card: EL -> Enter -> I -> Enter.
Accuracy check: The ellipse must be tangent to the isometric square it resides in.
