Lesson 4: Angle Overrides and Coordinate Logic (Plate 2-4)
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Students will use the "Angle Override" command and OFFSET to create non-orthogonal mechanical features.
Why is it faster to type an angle than to rotate a line after drawing it?
How do we use the OFFSET command to find parallel paths for angled lines?
Angle Override, Polar Input, Complementary Angles.
CT CADD.05.02: Use coordinate systems and polar tracking.
Students work on Plate 2-4. They will practice the syntax Distance < Angle - to draw specific slopes. They will then use OFFSET to create the thickness of the part along that specific angle
.
Purpose: To move beyond horizontal and vertical drafting into complex angular geometry.
DOK Level: 2.
Provide a "Reference Protractor" handout showing the AutoCAD degree system.
Accuracy check on 2-4: Use the DIST or ANG command to verify the student's angles match the print exactly.
