Lesson 6: Fillets and Safety Design
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Students will use the Fillet command to create rounded internal and external corners on mechanical parts
Why are fillets used on real-world metal parts (safety vs. strength)?
How does the Fillet radius affect the look and function of the part?
Fillet, Radius, Tangency, Concave vs. Convex.
CT CADD.06.02: Perform advanced editing (Fillet).
CT CTE.AR-D.2.1: Demonstrate the use of radii and geometric construction.
Students work on Plate 1-5. They will use the FILLET command with various radii to "soften" the corners of a machined part. They will compare how this differs from the Chamfer tool learned in Lesson 3.
Purpose: To understand geometric rounding for ergonomics and stress relief.
DOK Level: 2.
Visual aids showing the difference between a Fillet (round) and a Chamfer (flat) in a side-by-side comparison.
