Lesson Objective

Students will use the Mirror tool to create symmetrical mechanical parts and modify dimension units for fractional accuracy.

How does the Mirror command reduce drafting time by 50%?

Why might we change dimension units from decimal to fractional?

Mirror Line, Symmetry, Precision, DimStyle (Dimension Style).

CT CADD.06.01: Demonstrate the use of editing and modify commands.

CT CADD.08.01: Apply dimensions and annotations.

Using Drafting Plate 1-1, students draw one half of a symmetrical mechanical bracket. They will use the MIRROR command to complete the object and apply dimensions, adjusting the DIMSTYLE to match the specific print requirements.

Purpose: To master efficiency in symmetrical design.

DOK Level: 2.

Provide a video screen-cast of the Mirror command process; offer a "Symmetry Checklist" for self-monitoring.

Plate 1-1 Rubric: Check for mirrored object alignment and accurate fractional dimensioning.
