Unit 2: Customary & Metric Systems
Duration of Days: 10
The difference between the U.S. Customary and Metric (SI) systems.
The concepts of Tolerance (the allowable margin of error) and the cost of precision failures.
The relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Read precision instruments including rulers, calipers, and micrometers.
Perform complex fraction operations (adding 1/16" to 5/32", etc.) and convert them to "thous" (decimals).
Determine if a part is "in-spec" or "out-of-spec" based on bilateral and positional tolerances
A Precision Meassurement Lab where students measure physical artifacts (bearings, pins, or shims) and compare their readings against a provided tolerance sheet to identify "rejects."
