Unit 6: Microwave Cooking Unit

A microwave cooks food using invisible “waves.”
Microwaves heat food from the inside out.
Safety is always important: every time.
Safe vs. unsafe containers (glass, paper, microwave-safe plastic vs. metal, foil).
Basic microwave buttons (start, stop, time, open door).
Food must heat evenly (stirring, turning, covering).
The microwave must be kept clean.

Read simple picture-supported directions.
Identify safe/unsafe microwave items using sorting cards.
Practice using microwave buttons with teacher support.
Cook simple recipes (Rice Krispie Treats, Hot Chocolate, Mug Cake).
Show safe cleaning steps.
Explain (in speech, drawing, or pointing) one safety rule.

Point to safe containers when asked.

Follow a 4–6 step recipe with supports.

Tell or show one way to stay safe (ex: “Use a hot pad”).

Clean spills using wipes or paper towels.

Use start/stop correctly with supervision.
