1.2 Understanding language
4.1 Compare languages
Learn about definite and indefinite articles. Then practice using
these articles to identify family and how they are related. Apply their knowledge of family vocabulary and talk about and/or write about their own family members
DOK 1: The teacher calls out a noun (e.g., zaino). Students must immediately provide the correct definite article.
DOK 2: students take a list of singular items ( la sedia) and must "shift" them to plural (/ le sedie).
DOK 3: Students are given two scenarios (e.g., "I like the pizza at this restaurant" vs. "I like pizza in general"). They must explain in the target language how the use of the definite article changes the meaning.
DOK 4: students investigate how definite articles are used differently in Italian compared to English (e.g., using articles with abstract nouns or titles like il Sr. Smith or La libertà). They present a comparison of these "untranslated" articles.
Provide comprehensible input/ Students fold a sheet of paper in half, on the left side write
Singular and on the right side Plural. Have them create a list of classroom objects they see and write each object's singular and plural forms in the appropriate column
