Students will describe objects using the correct Italian colors, including invariable colors and identify colors in authentic Italian contexts (art, fashion, flags). The purpose is to introduce the learner to the Italian color palette through sensory input and structural patterns, establishing the foundation for noun-adjective agreement.
DOK 1: Students have 60 seconds to find and touch five objects in the room that match colors called out by the teacher.
DOK 2: Show a slide where the word "Red" is printed in Green ink. Students must say the color of the ink in Italian, not read the word.
DOK 3: Students act as "Brand Consultants." They are given a product (e.g., a new energy drink or a sleep aid) and must choose a color scheme based on the psychological associations of those colors in the target culture.
DOK 4: Students investigate the environmental impact of synthetic dyes in the textile industries of countries like Italy. They must research "natural" alternatives used by indigenous or traditional artisans and create a proposal for a "Green" clothing line.
DOK 1 (Recall): Identify colors when shown visual prompts. Point to or touch objects in the room when a color is called out
DOK 2 (Skill/Concept): Modify color adjectives to match given nouns. group objects by color and identify the gender of the object to determine if the color ending needs to change
DOK 3 (Strategic Thinking): "Notices and Wonders." Students look at a list of Italian colors and "notice" that some never change (like blu and viola) regardless of the noun. They must hypothesize why or find the pattern themselves rather than being told.
Students match the color word to the image, using cultural context to lower the barrier to starting. Students hold up colored cards in response to teacher prompts. Students will point to various colors in the room.
