Lesson Objective

Students will use the target language to introduce themselves to their classmates and exchange basic information such as: their names and how they are doing. Students will be able to identify the various ways to greet one another in the target language based on the time of day and situation.

How do Italians greet one another on a daily basis?
How do greetings change based on: time of day, context, person being spoken to?

Students will be engaging in target-level communication for the first time. They will grapple with the cultural reasons for formal vs informal greetings, which requires high level thinking.
DOK 1: Recall vocabulary for greetings.


DOK 3: Compare Italian and U.S. greetings including differences in when you say certain greetings.

DOK 4: Create a short dialogue between friends and/or colleagues where a variety of greetings are utilized.
