Description
This section provides the grammatical architecture necessary to fulfill the unit's communicative goals. It focuses on the functional use of Ser and Estar to distinguish between inherent personality traits and temporary emotional states. It also covers the Present Tense and Verbs like Gustar to allow students to make and answer questions about likes and preferences.

Purpose
The purpose of the Estructuras section is to transition students from "vocabulary recognition" to "language production.

DOK 1: Recall Conjugate verbs in the present tense or choose between Ser and Estar to complete a sentence describing a personality trait.
DOK 2: Compare Students use a Venn diagram to organize their preferences compared to a classmate's using gustar-like verbs.
DOK 3: Strategic Thinking Formulate a series of complex questions to interview a classmate about their likes and preferences in a romantic partner, requiring the use of verbs like gustar and molestar.
DOK 4: Extended Thinking Synthesize grammar and culture by writing a comparative essay that uses the Present tense and Ser/Estar to contrast social relationship norms in the U.S. versus those investigated in Latino culture.
