Lesson Objective

Student will:
-read about service internships in Latin America countries.
-read about surfing and other popular sports in Latin America.

-Communication: Students will present information, concepts and ideas to listeners or readers on a variety of topics.

Student will gain perspectives on the Spanish-speaking world to develop respect and openness to others and to interact appropriately and effectively with citizens of Spanish-speaking cultures.

Language in Action-brainstorm phrases that might be used by announcers during a surfing competition. Allow student volunteers to take the roles of announcer and surfer.

Warm-up:

·       Present to the class the Cultura Section Goals found in the Teacher’s Edition wrap.

·       Prepare students for the information in the Cultura section by using the Antes de leer feature in the Teacher’s Edition wrap.

Present:

·       Read the En detalle reading as a class.

·       Using the Lectura information in the Teacher’s Edition wrap, lead the students in a discussion about community service organizations.

·       Work through Así se dice of the Cultura section and encourage students to add the expressions to their personal vocabulary lists or flashcards. Invite heritage speakers to offer other expressions.

·       Use a group reading strategy to introduce Perfil.
