The purpose of this lesson is to see how the US Government has responded to economic downturns from both a conservative and liberal perspective. At its culmination this topic requires an evaluation of America's present economic situation and the difference of opinion implemented in addressing the situation.

This topic can be differentiated by assessing students understanding of the chronology, in more advanced students there will be understanding of the difference between conservative and liberal approaches, and for the most advanced students there should be some evaluation of the effect those policies have had on the economy and apply them to solving problems in Meriden's economy.
