Students will know how contemporary cultural issues and crime trends are covered across news media platforms. Students will know how to spot sensationalism, point of view, and media bias regarding social challenges. Students will understand how societal definitions of culture and crime evolve over time.
Students will review and analyze news media coverage regarding modern crime and cultural trends. Students will participate in open inquiry and class discussions regarding sensitive socio-political topics. Students will draft blog posts or short written arguments evaluating current cultural events.
