Unit 4: America and the World

Students will know how U.S. socio-economic and political actions intersect with broader global current events. Students will know how to identify international media biases and varying global points of view regarding American policy. Students will understand the shifting dynamics of the global-socio-political climate over time.
Students will evaluate multimedia resources from both domestic and international news channels. Students will conduct peer debates regarding contemporary foreign relations and global interactions. Students will read and analyze highly challenging text assignments detailing global conflicts and partnerships.

Students will complete argumentative writing assignments or analytical blogs evaluating America's global role.

Students will demonstrate proficiency through active participation in structured, high-level civic debates.

Evaluation will align directly with Connecticut Core Literacy Standards for Reading in History/Social Studies (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.11-12.1).
