Lesson Objective

Students will develop a comprehensive action plan by researching existing advocacy strategies and identifying key community stakeholders.

Who has the power to change this issue? What strategies are most effective for youth advocacy?

CT SS Inq 9–12.4.f: Evaluate and implement strategies for individual and collective action.

Procedure: * Days 1–3: Students research "success stories" of civic action related to their topic. They identify a "Target Audience" (e.g., the Mayor, Board of Ed, a local nonprofit).

Days 4–5: Students draft a "Strategic Action Map" detailing exactly what they will do (e.g., organize a drive, write a policy brief, create a PSA campaign).

Purpose: To ensure the action taken is "informed" by evidence and strategic thinking.

DOK Level: 4 (Extended Thinking).
