Students will gain an understanding of the systems of checks and balances and separation of powers by identifying how the two concepts exist in the U.S. governmental system. Students will also read and analyze Federalist 51 as a founding document in support of those concepts and how they achieve what the American people wanted in a government.
How checks and balances and separation of powers are put into practice today and every single day within the U.S. government. How those concepts can be seen in our country.
That either checks and balances or separation of powers may put slightly more power in one departments hands. Also, that certain areas of the government use their power to check more often then they should or in some cases not often enough.
