Students will explore key figures from the American Civil War and examine how their leadership, beliefs, and actions shaped different perspectives about national identity in the United States. Through the Who’s Who of the American Civil War reading slideshow, students will learn about important political leaders, military commanders, and influential individuals who played major roles during the conflict. As they analyze each figure, students will consider how these individuals influenced public opinion, decision-making, and the direction of the war. By the end of the lesson, students will better understand how leadership and differing viewpoints contributed to the divisions within the nation during the Civil War.
