Unit 6: Unit 6: The Jacksonian Era 1820s

In this unit, students will explore the Jacksonian Era, a period of major political, social, and economic change in the United States during the 1820s. Students will develop historical thinking skills by researching and analyzing primary and secondary historical documents to better understand the events and perspectives of the time.
Students will examine the geography of the region, including the location of states and territories, political boundaries, major landforms, and natural resources, and how geography influenced settlement, economic growth, and conflict.
Through a civics lens, students will analyze key political conflicts of the era, with a focus on Indian Removal, states’ rights, and the role of the federal government. Students will study how these conflicts affected Native American nations, settlers, and the balance of power between states and the national government.
Students will investigate the economic changes of the Jacksonian Era, including debates over states’ rights, the national economy, and how economic policies shaped American society. By the end of the unit, students will understand how the Jacksonian Era helped define democracy, government power, and economic development in the United States.
