The purpose of this lesson is to have students determine what made the Civil Rights movement a success, while evaluating where those successes fell short.

At the most basic level, students will be able to identify the chronology of events that led to political acceptance of equality for African Americans. Students should also be able to identify the failures of the Civil Rights movement and describe how those failures and successes have become part of the fabric of the present day.
