Lesson Objective

Students will read chapter 18 The Progressive Era in "Give me Liberty" and complete 10 pages of notes.
They will participate in a classroom discussion of this chapter and complete a quiz on the key terms.

• Who were the Progressives, and what methods did they use to address the changes taking place in American society?
• What new types of legislation and new types of organizations attempted to address the problems of this industrial society?
How did McKinley’s, T. Roosevelt’s, Taft’s, and Wilson’s views differ in terms of foreign intervention?
• What factors drove U.S. overseas expansion in the late nineteenth century?
