Unit 1: The Global Tapestry (c. 1200–1450)
Duration of Days: 13
Students will know how states formed, expanded, and governed across Afro-Eurasia and the Americas between 1200 and 1450. They will know how belief systems shaped political authority and social organization, how economic systems supported state power, and how regional societies demonstrated continuity and diversity during this period.
Students will analyze primary and secondary sources to explain developments in governance, religion, and economic systems. They will compare state formation across regions, contextualize historical developments, and practice making historically defensible claims using evidence.
Students will complete multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions using primary sources, and a partial long-essay response focused on comparison and state formation.
