Lesson 2: Observations and Measuring
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Students will gain an understanding of what a scientific observations are and how to use measuring tools to collect data
What observations can be made about a phenomenon.
What measurements are appropriate to collect data in certain situations
Mass, volume, metric, standard
Collecting and interperating data
Units of measuring
Students will develop skills around using SI measuring devices that will be used throughout the course.
Observing patterns in the world. Using various measurements
Fractions during standard length measurements
Students may need units included on their sheet.
Students may need modeling to develop number sense around measurements.
Students may need mini practice on fractions as related to measuring length.
Students are able to measure using various tools.
Tape measure, scale, various blocks to measure. Yeast, water, calcium chloride.
